Representatives of the ‘Run & More Community’ team and the athletic club ‘Banja Luka’ participated in the 40th Vodafone Istanbul Marathon, which started this morning on the Asian side and finished on the European side of Istanbul.
Our representatives wore the flags of their clubs proudly and in a magnificent way presented Banja Luka at the only intercontinental marathon in the world.
“The marathon organization in Istanbul is great, the track is a bit difficult, but the start line is one of the most beautiful in the world – from a beautiful bridge on the Asian part of the town you can see the European part of the town” said Goran Ćorić, director of the “Support” marketing center and the conceptual creator of the “Run & More Community” project.
This year’s edition of the largest marathon in Turkey was held with the participation of a record number of athletes and recreationalists from more than 100 countries.
Nearly 30,000 professional participants have reached the finish line located at the historic “Sultanahmet” Square on the European side of Istanbul.
This year’s event was held under the motto ‘Run in Istanbul for a healthy future’, and together with the marathon for the professionals, transcontinental races at 15, 10 and 8K around 100,000 recreationalists run in different categories.
According to the Turkish Minister of Sport and Youth Mehmet Muharram Kasapoglu, Istanbul is emerging as a brand when we talk about marathon, just like New York, Boston or Tokyo.
“By joining the continents, we will show, in a specific way, that sport has the power of unification,” Kasapoglu said, reports Anadolu agency.
The winner this year was athlete Felix Kimutai from Kenya, while his fellow countryman Ruth Chepng’etich celebrated in a women’s competition.
